మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్ విండోస్ ( విండోస్ ) అనేది మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్ కార్పొరేషన్ వాళ్ళ ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టమ్ సంపుటి. వీటిని అభివృద్ధి చేసి, మార్కెటింగ్, అమ్మకం చేపడతారు.

ఈ ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టమ్స్ లో చాలా రకాలు ఉన్నాయి, ఒక్కొక్క రకం ఒక్కో రంగానికి అనుగుణంగా అభివృద్ధి చేసినవి. ప్రస్తుతం విండోస్ లో విండోస్ ఎన్.టీ, విండోస్ ఎంబెడెడ్, విండోస్ ఫోన్ అనే రకాలు అందుబాటులో ఉన్నాయి, ఇందులో మళ్లీ  వివిధ రకాలు ఉన్నాయి ఉ. విండోస్ ఎంబెడెడ్ కాంపాక్ట్ (విండోస్ CE) లేదా విండోస్ సర్వర్.  విండోస్ 9x (95,98,ME), విండోస్ మొబైల్ వాడుకలోలేని విండోస్ రకాలు.

1985 నవంబరు 20 లో మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్, అప్పటి మార్కెట్ డిమాండ్ కి అనుగుణంగా విండోస్ ని విపణిలో విడుదల చేసారు. విండోస్ ని అప్పట్లో మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్ యొక్క MS-DOS ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం మీద ఆధారపడిన ఒక GUI ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టంగా అభివృద్ధి చేసారు.

అప్పట్లో విండోస్, కంప్యూటర్ సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ మార్కెట్ లో ఒక కొత్త సంచలనం, ఇది వినియోగదారులు వాడటానికి సులువుగా ఉండటంతో కంప్యూటర్ ఏంటో మందికి మరింత చేరువ అయ్యింది, విండోస్ కి మార్కెట్ లో మంచి ఆదరణ వచ్చింది.

అలా క్రమంగా విండోస్ ప్రపంచ కంప్యూటర్ సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ మార్కెట్ లో 90% షేర్ తోని తన ఆధిపత్యాన్ని నిలబెట్టుకుంది. మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్ కంటే ముందు ఆపిల్ సంస్థ 1984 లో ప్రవేశపెట్టిన మాక్ OSని అధిగమించి తన మార్కెట్ ను సుస్థిరం చేసుకుంది.

విండోస్ ని ఎక్కువగా గృహాలలో,చిన్న తరహ పరిశ్రమలలో వినియోగిస్తారు. కంపూటర్లు అధికంగా వాడే వినియోగదారులు వెళ్ళే అవ్వడంతో విండోస్ కి బాగా ప్రాచుర్యం పొందింది.

ఈ మధ్యన స్మార్ట్ ఫోన్ల వినియోగం పెరగటంతో ఆండ్రాయిడ్ స్మార్ట్ ఫోన్ ప్లాట్ ఫార్మ్ ను కైవసం చేసుకుంది, కానీ విండోస్ కి స్మార్ట్ ఫోన్ ల కూడా మంచి ఆదరణ ఉంది, కానీ కంప్యూటర్ ప్లాట్ఫారంలో ఇప్పటికి విండోస్ దే పైచేయి.

మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్, విండోస్ తయారిదారు, ఆ తరువాత ఆయా రంగాలు, పరిశ్రమలకు తగ్గటుగా విండోస్ లో ఎన్నో రకాలు రోపొందించి వాటికీ ట్రేడ్ మార్కు నమోదు చేసింది.

ప్రస్తుతం, 2014 కు గాను విండోస్ లో ఈ రకాలను మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్ క్రియాశీలకంగా ఉత్త్పత్తి చేస్తుంది :

  • విండోస్ ఎన్.టీ : విండోస్ ఎన్.టీ 3.1 వెర్షన్ తో ప్రారంబం ఐన ఈ ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం కెర్నల్ ప్రధానంగా సర్వర్, వర్క్ స్టేషన్ లకు అనుగుణంగా రూపొందించబడింది. ప్రస్తుతం మూడు ప్రధాన విండోస్ ఓ.ఎస్ రకాలు ఈ కెర్నల్ ఆధారితం గానే రూపొందించారు.
    • విండోస్ సర్వర్ : సర్వర్ సిస్టంలకు ఉద్దేశించిన ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం.విండోస్ సర్వర్ 2012 R2 ఇందులో తాజా వెర్షన్. వీటి క్లైంట్ వెర్షన్లలాగ 95,98,ఎక్స్.పి అనే పేర్లు కాకుండా ఒక బలమైన నేమింగ్ స్కీం పాటిస్తున్నారు. సర్వర్ లలో లినక్స్ ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం ప్రధాన పోటిదారు.
    • విండోస్ PE : విండోస్ ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టంని ఒక CD లో ఇమిడిపోయేలాగా అందులో ఉన్న ఫీచర్లను తొలగించి రూపొందించారు. సాధారణ విండోస్ లాగ దీనికి ఇన్స్టలేషన్ అక్కర్లేదు. వీటినే లైవ్ ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం అంటారు. దీనిని ప్రధానంగా కంప్యూటర్లలో సమస్యలను నివ్వృత్తి చేయడానికి, ఒక ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టాన్ని వందల కంప్యూటర్లలో ఒకే సరి ఇన్స్టాల్ చేయడానికి, డేటా రికవరీ అవసరాలకు ఉపయోగిస్తారు. విండోస్ PE 5.1 ఇందులో తాజా వెర్షన్.

కానీ, విండోస్ మొదటి రకం ఐన విండోస్ 1.x, విండోస్ 3.x రూల్ స్కీం ప్రకారం విండోస్ మెయిన్ స్ట్రీమ్ లో భాగం కాదు. పీ.సి ప్లాట్ఫారంలో విండోస్ కు పోటిదారులు ఆపిల్ వారి మాక్ ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం.

  • విండోస్ ఫోన్ : ఈ ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టాన్ని మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్ కేవలం స్మార్ట్ ఫోన్ల తయారిదారులకు పంపిణి చేస్తుంది. స్మార్ట్ ఫోన్లకు ప్రత్యేకంగా రూపొందించిన ఓ.ఎస్ ఇది. విండోస్ ఫోన్ 7 ఇందులో మొదటి వెర్షన్. ప్రస్తుతం మార్కెట్ లో విండోస్ ఫోన్ 10 రకం అందుబాటులో ఉంది. స్మార్ట్ ఫోన్ రంగంలో విండోస్ ఫోన్ కు గూగుల్ వారి ఆండ్రాయిడ్ ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం ప్రధాన పోటిదారు. స్మార్ట్ ఫోన్ల వినియోగదారుల్లో విండోస్ ఫోన్ ఆండ్రాయిడ్ తర్వాతి స్థానంలో ఉంది.
  • విండోస్ ఎంబెడెడ్ : మొదట్లో మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్ విండోస్ CE అనే ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టంని చేతికి ఇమిడిపోయే పాకెట్ పీ.సిలు, తక్కువ సామర్ధ్యంతో నడిచే కంప్యూటర్ లను ఉద్దేశించి రూపొందించింది. ఆ తరువాత పరిస్తుతులకు అనుగుణంగా విండోస్ CE ని విండోస్ ఎంబెడెడ్ గ పేరు మార్చారు. విండోస్ కాంపాక్ట్ ట్రేడ్ మార్కుతో ఉత్పత్తి చేస్తున్నారు. ఇప్పుడు విండోస్ ఎంబెడెడ్ ని బిల్లింగ్ మెషిన్లు, పరిశ్రమల పరికరాలు, కార్లు, పాకెట్ పీ.సిలు, ఇతర చిన్న తరహ పరికర అవసరాలకు ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టంగా వినియోగిస్తునారు.

క్రింది విండోస్ లో రకాలును మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్ ఉత్పత్తి చేయటం ఆపేసింది :

  • విండోస్ 9x : గృహ వినియోగదారులను దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకుని మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్ రూపొందించిన తొలి ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టంల కెర్నల్ రకం. మైక్రోసాఫ్ట్ MS-DOS ఆధారంగా రూపొందించిన కెర్నల్. అప్పట్లో మార్కెట్ లో సంచలనం ఐన విండోస్ 95,98 లలో దిన్ని ఉపయోగించారు. ఆ తర్వాత విండోస్ ME లో దిన్ని ఉపయోగించారు, కానీ ఈ కెర్నల్ కి 2000 తర్వాత వచ్చిన ఆధునిక కంప్యూటర్ హార్డువేర్ ను పూర్తి సామర్ధ్యంతో వినియోగిన్చుకోలేకపోయింది. దానితో ఎన్నో సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ సమస్యలు రావటంతో విండోస్ ME వినియోగదారులను ఆకుట్టుకోలేకపోయింది. విండోస్ 9x కెర్నల్ మీద రూపొందించిన చివరి ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం ఇది. ఆ తరువాత విండోస్ 9x కెర్నల్ స్థానంలో విండోస్ NT ఆధారిత కెర్నల్ తో ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం లను ఉత్పత్తి చేస్తుంది. 1993లో వచ్చిన విండోస్ NT 3.1, NT కెర్నల్ మీద రూపొందించిన మొదటి ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం. విండోస్ 2000, ఆ తర్వాతి అన్ని ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టం లను NT కెర్నల్ మీదనే ఉత్త్పత్తి చేయటం మొదలుపెట్టారు.
